MTB Holidays - World Class Mountain Biking Holiday Destinations

Being based in Scotland it seemed only fitting to launch MTB holidays with mission to promote Scotland to the world as one, if not the best destination for single track mountain biking in the world.
MTB holiday is changing and intends to create a single site for all types of mountain bikers, from freeride families to the mountain bike communities biggest air-heads to review newly prepared trails and to publicise more traditional XC routes that people have found. A new version of MTB holiday will be going live within the next month that will offer a open forum mountain biking blog for people planning or reporting on a recent mountain biking holiday.

Scotland's Mountain Bike History

Over the last ten years we have seen the collaboration between the Scottish Forrestry Commission and local councils (notably Midlothian and Dumfries and Gallowway Councils) bring mountain biking in Scotland to the atention of the world. 2004 saw the International Mountain Biking Association award an A- to Scotland's mountain biking holiday offering. This was the highest award ever given to mountain biking facilities outside of the USA. However as if that was not 'feather in cap enough' The International Mountain Biking Association's online survey found Scotland to be named as the mountain bikers international'People's Choice'. Scotland often has a habit of belittling its sporting abilities (most notably in football) but when it comes to mountain biking, Scotland is a trully world class destination. Since this 2004 Mountain biking accolade, in 2006 full recognition of Scotland's trail builders work was given by the Internation Mountain Biking Association. Scotland has now been awarded the no1 mountain biking destination in the world. This has fueled more trail building with recent additional mountain biking at Blaradam in Fife, a network of trails within the Cairngorms and the more established Laggan Wolftrax mountain bike trails and the new mountain bike freeride area at Mabie Forrest in Dumfriesshire. Some of the 7 staines mountain bike centre photos below should help to further prove our passionate point about the value of Scotland's 7 Staines as a Mountain biking holiday destination:

Steve Peat, Pro Orange Downhill Rider and winner of the downhill mountain biking World Cup in 2002 and 2004, recently said in a piece he wrote for Visit Scotland, " Scotland is the place I've used as a training ground for quite for a few years and it's helped me go on and take on the rest of the world. And then there's Glentress Mountain Biking centre - This is an amazing centre and a real hub for the sport in Scotland. The singletrack trails there are top quaility, and there are more of them in one area than you will find just about anywhere else. Its places like these that make mountain biking in Scotland Unique. A lot of leading mountain biking resorts around the world cater mainly for downhill riders - very few mountain biking locations build dedicated trails for downhill and cross country riding. That's what you have in Scotland and therefore it's Scotland that's really pushing the way forward in terms of catering for all levels of mountain bike riding."
